Get more than you need, because you have to experiment a little with the size and coloring of the transfers. June Tailor’s Sew-in Colorfast Fabric Sheets for Ink Jet Printers I now use June Tailor’s Sew-In Colorfast Fabric Sheets for Ink Jet Printers. Then there is the actual process of taking the printed fabric and making it color fast and ready to use. I saw that people preferred June Tailor, Inc. Then, I looked for the product they used and tried it out on my printer. I got on YouTube and looked at transfer videos until I saw a trend in usage and product. It’s important to take it slow and do your homework. The first sheets I got were lovely and thick, but got caught inside the printer each time I sent one through. The printer will pull the fabric sheet through the machine as if it were a thick piece of paper. The usual way this happens is for your photo on your computer to be sent to an ink jet printer. What you’re going to be doing it transferring the photo to a piece of fabric. The first thing I did was start collecting photos. Using a bright or really clear photo is important if you are going to put it on fabric. So whenever I get photos from someone, I’m now running them through a photo app to check to see if I can get them to brighten or clear up. What the gallery apps do is highlight and give your photo different tints and lighting effects. If you use Google Chrome, you can download this app. If you sign up for the photography package, you get the best price. Unfortunately, it costs a monthly subscription. Then there is Adobe Photoshop, which is a blast once you get a few tutorials under your belt. Well, actually, three: First there’s Microsoft Photo, which is always around when you download Microsoft Office or use Windows 10. I have two programs on my computer that I use to help me. Most photos are kind of dim and need a little brightening up. Yeah, asking a person to send you a photo of themselves that they really like is hard! They’ll say, ” Oh, I don’t have anything that makes me look good.” This time, I am really lucky, because Chuck and his wife, Julie, have just returned from a trip to New Zealand and Australia (I know!). My plan is to fill those squares with photos.Ĭhuck is excited and he’s going to send me some photos to use. that made me take a second look at the all-rust squares and the alternating rust with brown. Then I though about the number of photos and where they would go. I think I like the bare space alternating with rust squares. I’ve put some alternate colors in different sections to see the difference in the effects. I’ve copied the basic pattern over and over again to create a mock-up of the quilt below. Looks like a piecing job I would be able to do, but I’ll have to be careful to line squares up straight. We’re talking about strips of alternating triangles, a big square and more right triangles on the edges. Here’s one of many quilts that got me interested in this pattern. I found a pattern that I think I can work with. I have chosen a pattern after going online and Googling “Southwest themed quilts”. Okay, he’s excited about the style and colors. Before I go any further, I need to talk to my brother, Chuck. It will be a little less than a twin bed size. What function will it serve? I was thinking, it would be nice to make a quilt for their new sofa in the family room. I chose a memory quilt with a Southwest quilt theme. So, what kind of theme should this quilt have? Something that appeals to my brother and his family. Today, I was gathering photos and decided to blog about it. Right now, it fills me with anticipation, that I’m going to learn new skills and make something unique. I want it to bring happiness to their stressful lives…well, who knows what they will think of it. I want it to be something that the family keeps and occasionally turns over in their hands and remembers the events, the times, the faces of the past. I’m aware that putting pictures on fabric is common practice these days, but this is my first time creating a quilt with photographs to sew on to the pattern.
